Amidst all of the sponsorship and glory, the X Games represent something special for skateboarding, a glimpse of acceptance from the mainstream. Whether that matters or not, it is a way to share what we love with the world and maybe get a few new recruits and continue to support the lifestyle we are lucky enough to live. Underneath who wins, or what was done, or even who’s logo is on the wall, it the chance to skate some of the biggest, coolest, most interesting things on the planet, and the chance to be a part of the most electric sessions ever. A chance to experience our skateboards taking us somewhere special. Practice or contest, Skating is skating, and the vibe is as strong here as it ever is. There might be different arenas for the layman to better see and understand each type of skateboarding, yet bringing multiple “disciplines” into one place with the purpose of appreciation and fun reminds us of the inclusiveness that we get to experience as skateboarding itself. Segregation is bad. Enjoy this skateboarding from all of X Games “Practice.”
