2015 X Games Skateboard Big Air
The 2015 X Games Skateboard Big Air Finals went off under the stars in Austin Texas this weekend. The best skateboarders in the world faced their own fears to push the current limits of skateboarding, as well as each other, in the hopes of squeezing every ounce of progression out of themselves and this massive ramp. With the god-father of Big Air, Danny Way, standing at the top of the roll in to watch, and a packed crowd lining the Circuit Of The Americas track, the electricity was palpable and the guys pulled out all of the stops. The friendly competition and excitement was only balanced out by the reality of what was going down: people pushing themselves to the limit on the biggest skateboarding competition platform on the planet. Returning X Games Skateboard Big Air medalists Tom Schaar, Bob Burnquist, Elliot Sloan and a heavy and hungry pack of elite shredders spent their time up on the roll-in in a focused daze of athletic mental rehearsal, joking with each other to break up the tension, or obsessively rolling their boards a few feet in front of them to make sure they were tracking straight. That is critically important when going 45 miles an hour down a 45 degree angle and launching 70 feet over a gap headed straight for a 25′ Quarter Pipe that launches you straight up to an average of 20 feet of air above the coping. The epitome of gnarly, this contest gets more exciting from year to year, and we love every minute of organizing and running it. Check out the video below to see how these 4 wheeled gladiators of sidewalk surfing showed the world that flying is possible.
